Sastha with Prabha And Sathyakan
Sastha of this temple is a deity having indefinable and sublime power, shrines like this temple where Sastha, his wife Prabha and son Sathyakan co-exist can rarely be seen in Kerala.
Sastha at the centre with “Sangu(the shells of sea-creature, seen in all rituals)” in his left hand and the symbol “Varada” in the right , Prabha his wife with “Veena (a stringed musical instrument)” in her hands on his (Sastha) and Sathyakan , his son on the right side with bow and arrows on the same “Peedha(a small platform)”.
The deity here is full of merciful regards to those who worship and is pouring blessings on them. All the more he is especially enthusiastic to give blessings clearly making out what the devotes actually indent. Being a co-existing with his wife and son, the “Deva” always tends to shower blessings for happy married life and welfare of children. Those who start education by writing the letters of the alphabets in the presence of this deity become highly educated and famous later. The practice and procedure of “Prathishta” are to generate spiritual power in the idol by the acquisition of competence in customary rituals and hard study of “Manthram(vedic hymn)” for the development and welfare of the place in which the temple is situated. When the installation of the idol is made as in the manner specified above the miseries of the village get eradicates and accomplishment of welfare and economic growth thereof becomes a reality.

The hill shrine of Parekkunnu and its deity Lord Ayyappan is matchless in Hindu religion and peculiar to the Kerala State in South India. Being born out of Mohini (the female incarnation of Lord Vishnu) and Lord Shiva, he is also known as Bhuthanatha, Dharmasastha, Hariharan, Ayyanar and Manikanda.
